The first Iranian women’s soccer team to qualify for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup is revealed

Iran is set to host its first ever women’s team in 2019, as the country prepares to host the FIFA Women´s World Cup in Tehran in 2019.

The Iranian women will join the ranks of the world elite in 2020. 

Iran has qualified for the 2018 World Cup and is scheduled to play host to China in 2019 as well as host the 2018 Asian Cup in Japan. 

This year, the country is aiming to field at least eight teams for the World Cup, with the women set to be the first to qualify. 

“The first women’s Iranian team has been announced,” the country’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said during a ceremony in Tehran. 

A national anthem was played at the ceremony, while the national anthem played by Iran’s National Team was followed by the national flag flying in front of the stadium. 

The first squad of the Iranian women team, which will be named the Iranian Women`s National Team, will be announced on Wednesday, with coach Marzieh Gharbani and coach Ayatabai Saghafi to be among the first officials to take part in the ceremony. 

Teams will be formed based on the existing squad, with two new players being added, with Ayatakari Gharbi, 25, and Karina, 24, joining the squad, while former Iran Women player Karima Mirca, 28, and team-mate Khatem Alizadeh, 28 will be added. 

All eight teams in the preliminary stages are expected to be announced at the end of March. 

While Iran is hoping to be part of the 2026 World Cup finals, the first squad for the team has not yet been announced.
