The NBA has named LeBron James to be the league’s head coach next season, the league announced on Thursday.
The announcement was made as James prepared to begin his fifth season as a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers.
James has a record of 1,812-167 with the Cavs, who won their fifth NBA title in five seasons and advanced to the Eastern Conference finals last season.
The two-time NBA Finals MVP has won a record 17 games as coach.
James is in the final year of his contract, but it’s expected he will ask for a trade before making a decision on a new role.
James and the Cavaliers have also been linked to the Philadelphia 76ers.
