Here are some tips on how to get started as a professional baseball player in the United States.
Find a job.
Many players who don’t play in major leagues are automatically eligible for federal and state government assistance.
The federal government’s Child and Dependent Care Tax Credit (CDTC) and state-funded child care assistance programs are available to qualified adults ages 18 to 64 who have low incomes and live in states that don’t offer these programs.
The CTC, administered by the U, S. Department of Labor, is $1,000 per month.
The CDTC is based on a family’s monthly household income and includes both employer-provided and private-sector-provided care.
The benefits of the CTC apply to both child care expenses and rent payments.
In addition, the government’s Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program covers some expenses for low-income workers.
The U. S. Supplemental Security Benefits (SSB) program is available to low-wage workers in both private and public sectors.
If you don’t qualify for any of the federal programs, you can still apply for SSI or a variety of other state-subsidized assistance.2.
Learn how to pay for housing.
For those who play in the major leagues, you’ll have to work with a real estate agent to find an apartment for your career.
Many homeowners will be reluctant to accept your request if they don’t know your income.
You’ll have a better chance if you can show that you’re a qualified tenant.
Ask about the rent in your area and see if it’s affordable.
If it’s not, it might be because the market isn’t competitive, says John D. Dyer, a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution.
Some of the best housing options for players are located within a five-minute walk from major league parks or other baseball stadiums.
If your income is less than $125,000, your apartment might not be the best choice.
Find an agent.
While agents may not have the same experience or skills as a realtor, they can offer you advice about whether to rent an apartment or to find a place in your neighborhood.
Some agents will offer free rent for two months, whereas others charge a flat fee of $200 to $400.
If a job offer comes along, it may be worth calling or texting to make sure that your agent is up to date with your career goals.
A good agent can also help you find a job that suits your abilities and your personal finances.

Consider getting a credit card.
The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) has a handy site for individuals with credit cards who are looking for a job, but are unsure of how much it will cost to apply for and get a loan.
The site includes links to more information about credit cards and offers to help you get a free loan from a company that may not qualify for government assistance (or a cheaper loan, if you don
